How Buyant Uses Cookies and Similar Technologies

This Policy explains how Buyant (“Buyant,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies on the Buyant platform, why we use them, and the choices available to you.

Read Alongside Our Privacy Policy

This Cookies Policy is part of our Privacy Policy and should be read together with it for the full picture of how we handle your data.

1. What This Policy Covers

1.1 Cookies and Similar Technologies. A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website. We also use similar technologies — such as local storage — that serve the same purpose: remembering information about your visit. This Policy uses "cookies" to refer to both.

1.2 Scope. This Cookies Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies we use on portal.buyant.com and our mobile-optimised web application, why we use them, and how you can manage your preferences. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

2. Essential Cookies

2.1 Authentication. We set a session cookie when you sign in, so the Platform can recognise you as logged in as you move between pages. Without it, you would need to re-verify with a new OTP on every page.

2.2 Security. We use essential cookies and equivalent techniques to protect the Platform against fraud and abuse, and to keep your account secure.

2.3 Always Active. Essential cookies cannot be switched off, because the Platform cannot function without them — there is no consent option for this category.

3. Functional Storage

3.1 Your Preferences. We use local storage to remember choices you make on the Platform — such as your cookie-consent choice and your display theme (light or dark) — so you don't have to set them again on your next visit.

3.2 Device-Only. This information is stored on your own device and is not sent to our servers unless it's needed to operate a feature you've chosen to use.

4. Analytics Cookies

4.1 How We Use Analytics. We use an analytics tool (PostHog) to understand how people use the Platform — which pages are visited, which features are used, and where users run into trouble — so we can improve the product.

4.2 What We Collect. Analytics data includes pages viewed, session duration, device and browser type, and in-app actions such as Rally views and backing activity. This data is tied to a randomly generated identifier, not directly to your name.

4.3 No Advertising Use. Analytics data is used only to improve Buyant's own product. It is never sold, and never shared with third parties for their own advertising purposes.

5. Third-Party Cookies

5.1 Payment Processing. When you back a Rally, our payment processor Paystack may set its own cookies to process your payment securely and screen for fraud. These cookies are controlled by Paystack, not Buyant — see Paystack's own privacy and cookie policy for details.

5.2 No Third-Party Advertising Cookies. Buyant does not use advertising cookies, and we do not permit third-party ad networks to place tracking cookies through our Platform.

6. Managing Your Preferences

6.1 The Cookie Banner. When you first visit the Platform, we show a banner letting you accept or decline non-essential cookies. Your choice is remembered for future visits.

6.2 Your Browser Settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. If you block essential cookies, parts of the Platform — including staying signed in — may stop working.

7. Changes to This Policy

7.1 Updates. We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time as our use of cookies and similar technologies changes. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
